A post office was established in the city in 1973, followed by a general store and numerous homes. The presence of these amenities played a significant role in the expansion of the town.

On April 28. 1973, a rail car with aircraft bombs exploded in Antelope, destroying the general store and several homes in the area. This event changed the area for good.
